Well, I can't see anything miraculous in there. The point is, in 3) you
only installed a single program with no dependencies to a nvidia
package, and in 5) you only updated your cache.

Next time you try a full-upgrade/dist-upgrade without pinning you'll
find yourself back at the start of this thread, I suppose. :(
